To create the magic one must inhabit the magic. So if you’ve read The 5AM Club, you know about Mr. Riley’s magic. But this principle is really the principle to create the magic one must inhabit the magic.
What I’m suggesting is for you to push magic, not just ordinary work, but magic that delights and astounds and astonishes consumers of your work. You need to know what magic feels like and what magic tastes like.
Yesterday I had a very simple lunch, but it was magic. The food, the ingredients
were market fresh. And then this fresh food was skillfully prepared. And then the place where I ate it was in a sort of rustic area of the city I’m visiting. It was a little sort of gritty, but the whole experience was soulful. It was magic. And so what I’m suggesting to you is the more you can experience magic, maybe it’s food, maybe it’s an art gallery with great masters so you can commune with the great masters. Maybe it’s a trip that you
take where you’re watching sunsets and you’re seeing great monuments. The more you know what magic tastes like and feel like, the more you can then create it in your work.
