The old science said that you are your DNA. You are your genome. If your mother or father had these genes, then you get these genes. And so you’re just stuck with your genome. And if they have a certain disease, you have to have it. If they have a certain biology, then you pick it up. If they have a certain neurobiology, then you pick it up. Here’s what epigenetics has discovered. We do receive our genome from our previous generations. Having said that, we can hack the genome, and that’s what epigenetics speaks to. It speaks to the power of what I call your ecosystem. It speaks to the dramatic influence of your environment to shape … And get this, turn on and turn off certain genes. So, there are actually genomicists you can go to, and they will actually map your genome. And they can say, “Well, you have a propensity for, let’s say, diabetes or Alzheimer’s, or this or that. And here’s why you might suffer from low energy or mental fog, or whatever it is, anxiety or ADD. But if you take this medicine or if you take this natural medicine, or if you exercise in the morning, or if you do this, then you can actually turn on the gene that is suboptimal and bring it up to optimal so that the issue will no longer be an issue.” It’s very profound. Again, epigenetics means above your genome. And through your habits, through your diet, through your mindset, through your Heartset, those four words I introduced in my work … Obviously, I didn’t introduce mindset, but everyone’s talking about Mindset. I believe that’s only 25% of the personal mastery equation because your Mindset is only your psychology. You can have a great psychology, but if you have a toxic Heartset, your emotionality, if you’re full of fear, anger, sadness, guilt, shame, how are you going to dominate your domain and do world-class work, and handcraft a beautiful life? So, it’s not just Mindset. It’s Mindset and Heartset, and then Healthset, which is your physicality. Of course, we have a body. You got to manage your energy, got to hack aging. You got to increase your vitality. But it’s not just Mindset and Heartset, and Healthset. It’s this fourth word I’ve introduced in my teachings, Soulset, which is your spirituality. This is your deepest self, your wisest self. This is your connection to the energy that runs the seasons and builds off life. It’s just so profound, epigenetics. Your diet, your Mindset, your Heartset, your Healthset, your Soulset. And so your morning routine, your pre-sleep ritual, the way you spend your days, all of these things that I’m teaching you dramatically affect the way your genome expresses yourself. Isn’t that interesting? We are not stuck with the genome we were born with. We have such power. Again, that’s what I meant. Like all the mystics and philosophers have said to us through philosophy, the way you think and the way you feel, and the way you live your life matters. Now, there is science called epigenetics, which is confirming what the mystics have said for centuries. And I find it very interesting in society that many people discounted what the philosophers have said for years, “Oh, I don’t believe in philosophy. I don’t believe in self-help and personal mastery.” And now, because science confirms it, now, they believe it. It really speaks to the fact that we are so data-driven in our society. We need to see data. We’re so intellectualized that we discount the power of ancient wisdom and philosophy, and tested ideas. Anyway, real leadership comes not when you get an idea in your Mindset. The transformation comes when you get traction around it by living it.
