Install “The Zero-Device Day” Ritual to Amplify Your Mental Focus

Once a week, Friday is a great day, I want you to completely turn off all of your devices because the key to elite performance is deep recovery. You do your best work when you’re inspired, when your cognitive bandwidth, as the scientific term is called, is full. When your well of inspiration is to the top. When you’re feeling rested and strong and happy, not when you’re depleted and cranky. And so, what a lot of people do is they fall into the snare of always being online, always being available, always answering their phone. Why would you let everyone have your phone number, by the way, and
why would you allow your phone to ring? Your technology should be your servant, not your master. On The Zero-Device Day, do it once a week. Do it for 24 hours. Turn off all devices and take your devices, especially your handheld, and put it in a place where you can’t touch it. Maybe put a Post-it note and say, “24 hours away from this.” Put it in a little baggie, put it in your car trunk. But do this every Friday, or maybe it’s every Saturday, or maybe it’s every Sunday. Watch what happens. You will come back to
work born anew. You will feel great. You will have so much energy, so much more creativity, and so much more productivity.
