You know what Mahatma Gandhi said? He said, “One cannot do right in one area of his life, whilst he is occupied in doing wrong in any other area. Life is one indivisible whole.” And so the way you make your bed, sets up the way you build your business. You’re saying, Robin, what do I mean by that? Well, if you allow your bed to be messy, then you’re going to allow your business to be messy. If you have, let’s say a messy workplace, then you probably allow other messes into your life. If you have relationships that are toxic, then you are probably allowing other forms of toxicity into your life. I mean, I guess another way to look at this third mindset of empire makers is the way you do the little things, determines the way you do the big things. The way you do the little things determines the way you do the big things.
So in many ways, you know, I’m a perfectionist and I just like things to be orderly. I learned this
from Steve Jobs when he was starting NeXT and he literally made the entire workplace white. He wanted the floors so clean that people could eat off the floors. And they said, why does everything have to be so minimalist, Steve? And why does everything have to be all white and so perfect? And he said, well, because the way our environment is going to set up the way we produce our products. And Steve Jobs was very much an artist and he was very much a perfectionist and he was very much a lover of all things beautiful. So simply remember that the way you do one thing is going to set up the way you do everything.
