Connect With Your Mortality to Lead Your Highest Life

Developing a sincerity with the intimacy of your mortality. What do I mean by that? Developing a sincere connection with your mortality? Well, it is only when you get at a visceral, emotional level, not at an intellectual level. We all know we’re going to die. As a matter of fact, so many of us, one of our greatest fears is ambient mortality. That’s why a lot of us play small and we stay safe and we stay contracted and we don’t allow our bigness to see the light of day. At a fundamental level, we have ambient background noise of our mortality, that we’re going to die. So we’re scared. And that causes us to contract in our productivity, our performance, and the way we show up with the people around us. So please start to viscerally, because relearning happens not in the head, but in the heart, in the body. When you feel the idea. When you feel it as a felt feeling versus an actual concept. That’s why Heartset work is so important. It allows you to feel. Imagine feeling a truth, not just intellectualizing truth as a lofty concept, but you feel it. You feel the time is short. I will die someday, soon or late, we all end up as dust. Imagine the fire in the belly that would give to you. If you woke up every morning, yes, at5:00 AM. Okay, maybe 5:15, and you literally said, “Today could be the last day of my life,” or you just were connected with your mortality. You would not be busy. You would clearly identify which things are important and which things are useless toil. Please don’t confuse movement with effectiveness, and then you would roll up your sleeves and get great things done. You would also, if you were connected with your mortality and the shortness of life, be more loving, be kinder to people, be more strategic, live your values, take more risks, bet the farm once in a while, and certainly you’d wear your heart on your sleeve a lot more.
