Surrounding yourself with what I call a population of loved ones. You want to have a great team around you that you’re connected to. You want to have great relationships with your customers. You want to drink coffee or have nice meals with your suppliers.
But not only that, what’s the point of getting to the end of your life not having great friends? My dad used to say to me, he said, “Robin, if you’ve got three great friends that you could call at 3:00 in the morning should you need them, you will be a very rich person.” And it’s not only your friends, it’s your family.
I’ve met a lot of people. They’ve reached the mountaintop of success and they’re alone. You do not want to get to the mountaintop of success and say, “I never really connected with my significant other. I never really connected with my family.”
I had a long dinner a little while ago with one client and he said, “I’m really sad, Robin.” I said, “Why are you sad?” He said, “Because I have everything, but my kids just went off to university and I never spent time with them. I never got to know the human beings that they are.”
So, make sure the population of loved ones is super important, and never be so busy that you don’t install perfect moments within your days with the people who matter most.
