Clarity breeds mastery. I remember taking my family to Firenze in Italy and going into the gallery where David was standing, Michelangelo’s amazing statue. And as I deconstructed the experience and did some research, I realized, Michelangelo
actually was given a discarded block of marble. The other artists called it garbage. “You can’t do anything with this block of marble.” But Michelangelo saw with intimate
clarity, David, in that block of marble that the industry peers called garbage.
And he was actually asked, how did you create David, this gorgeous piece of art that has inspired millions of people by the breath of his mastery? And here’s what he said. He said, “For many long hours, I pictured David in the block of marble. And then all I did was chip away at everything that was not David.” I think it’s a great metaphor to live a world-class life. Simplify, strip away complexity, be a minimalist, build your days around a few things.
