If you improve one habit, if you elevate one simple ritual, you then have the power to improve every other habit in your life. And so I know of no other habit that is better to work on: if you can only choose one habit, it’s to get up at 5:00 AM. Because not only do you give yourself that one hour for quietude, not only do you give yourself that one hour to do some exercise, not only do you have some time to think, not only do you have some time to pray or visualize or meditate or write in that journal, but that one habit will lift every other habit in the rest of your life, because it does take that willpower for the first 66 days until you get to automaticity to why you’re in the habit of getting up at five o’clock.But every other thing you do… Maybe it’s the quality of the way you eat. Maybe it’s how you are at work. Maybe it’s your commitment to your craft. Maybe it’s how you are with your family and other habits that you’re working on to improve your private life. By getting up at 5:00 AM and really winning with that one habit, every other part of your life automatically gets lifted.
