Lead By Example [LBE]

A lot of the CEOs I work with, they say, “Robin, could you come into our organization and help us build engagement? Robin, can you come in and help us build leaders at every level so that even the person who sweeps up at the end of the day sees themself as the CEO of sweeping up at the end of the day. Robin, can you come in and help us get the fire in the bellies back? Robin, can you come in and help us build a team of A-Players?”

And the first thing I want to say to that CEO is, “Well, look in the mirror, and are you engaged? Are you an epic performer? Are you modeling possibility? Are you wow with your customers? Are you graceful under pressure?”

So LBE is simply leading by example. The number one way for you to influence another human being is for you to model the very behavior you wish that they were living. And so let me ask you, are you the most engaged person at your workplace? Do you shift from excuses to creating results? Are you all about education in your free time versus entertainment? Are you sort of modeling victimhood by being frightened by change, or are you inspired by change, which is, as I mentioned, one of the key things about leadership? Lead by example.
