No matter how long we get to live, we all end up as a pile of dust, often on a mantle above someone’s fireplace next to their little league trophies. It does not matter how you are remembered when you are no longer here, because you are dead. Marcus Aurelius in Meditations talks about the tongues of posterity. How often do we live our lives in such a way so that the tongues of posterity celebrate us? I do not think it’s important how you are remembered when you’re no longer here. What is most important is how you live while you are alive. Did you do your dreams? Did you materialize your promise? Did you chase your fears and transcend them so you grew? Did you treat people with kindness? Were you would encourager versus a discourager? Did you trust your instinct over your intellect? Did you use each day as a platform for possibility versus being a victim stuck in the past, complaining over things that you cannot change? Legacy is a waste of time. Use today and use this fresh year to materialize your genius, to honor your potential, to pursue your mighty and heroic and ethical ambitions, and to make the world a brighter place. You can do it, and you’ve been given the opportunity of a lifetime to do it. So don’t worry about your legacy. Use today, and while you’re alive, to really make the world a brighter place.
