You can play victim and you can duck your head in the sand and you can say, “I’m going to lose my creativity and I’m going to lose my productivity, I’m going to lose my energy, and I’m going to lose my business.” So all I’m saying to you is heroes are built not in times of ease. Heroes are built in times of storm. Nelson Mandela became Nelson Mandela in his 18 years in Robben Island. Rosa Parks became Rosa Parks in the face of mistreatment and degradation. Martin Luther King became Martin Luther King in the civil rights struggle. Gandhi became Gandhi when he took down an empire or fought an empire. So it’s the old idea, you can look out the window and curse the mud or see the stars. You can focus on the prison bars or you can see the universe above in all its beauty. And in many ways, it does come down to your perspective, and I want you to take the perspective where, what is the opportunity in what you’re going through to become a stronger person? Ask yourself, what are those external events activating in me? Because if you didn’t have preexisting fear, nothing on the outside could actually trigger that preexisting fear. And then so then you look at the fear and you do all the hearts at work that I teach, and you journal and you meditate and you process, because to heal a wound, you need to feel a wound. Anyone can show leadership when everything’s great. You get to show leadership with yourself and with your team, and with your family, of course, and with your community when it all falls apart. This time right now allows you to take the steps that build the new neural pathways through the phenomenon of neuroplasticity, which if you keep on practicing them for the rest of your life will make you into a heroic leader. And it does begin with leading yourself. Leader lead thyself. You will never be able to take people to a higher place than you’ve taken yourself to. The world reflects who you are. Your income and your impact always reflects your self-identity. Your outer life always reflects your ability. If you have deservability issues because your parents didn’t applaud you and honor you, then you’re probably an adult with all these holes. But if you didn’t get that applause and appreciation when you were a little kid, then you’re probably an adult with these holes, so you’re looking for your drugs of choice to fill the holes within, whether it’s more social media likes, more money, more things, more social standing. But a big idea. Enjoy the world, but don’t be of the world. And if you are feeling powerless right now, it’s because you’ve been deriving your power from outer things like your house or your title. And you want to get to a place where you get your power, your axis of power from your character, from your integrity, from your honor, from your creativity, from your service to the world, so that even if you were to lose everything and you’re going to say, “Robin, you’ve gone too far.” Even if you were to lose everything, even your family, it wouldn’t take away your sense of power, grace, joy, and peace. And that’s the path and the sport of the true titans and the real possibilitarians and hopefulists. So some tactics, your morning routine is everything right now, The 20/20/20 Formula that I teach in The 5AM Club, because the way you start your day is profoundly important for the way your day unfolds. You want to start with some sweaty exercise, do some journaling. I’ve been doing music playlists. Music is soimportant. Lots of hydration first thing in the morning. Supplement.I do vitamin C. I take vitamin D. sunbathing to make sure my immune system stays strong.Fasting, which I’ve been doing for years because that’ll reduce inflammation. And get lots of rest. Very important right now. And make sure if you can, commune with nature, which is always a wonderful thing. Read a lot and use the news as a tool, not as a drug. And I can just go on and on. But this is a time where you get to make the steps that will help you come out of this so much stronger, so much wiser, so much faster, so much more creative. And it really does begin with leading yourself.
