Success lies in a masterful consistency around the fundamentals. Don’t make it complicated. Greatness lives in the fundamentals. Refine polish, practice the fundamentals every day. Over time, you will be world-class.
I was working on improving my skiing a number of years ago, and I was in New Zealand, and I was with my ski instructor and he pointed over, he said, “See that woman over there, skiing?” And I said, “Yeah, the one doing the snowplow,” which is like an introductory ski move. And he said, “Yes, that’s the national champion.” And I said, “Michelle, why is she doing the snowplow?” And he said, “Well, for her to get to her next level, she needs to go back to the fundamentals upon which her technique is based. And by calibrating and improving and refining the fundamentals, she’s going to have a transformational impact in her overall skiing ability.”
I think that’s a great metaphor for success lies in a masterful consistency around the fundamentals. Do the most important things really, really well with great consistency every single day, and that’s how you get your performance and impact to a whole new level.
