Just because you couldn’t do it yesterday doesn’t mean you can’t do it today. Today you are one day wiser. Today you are one day stronger. So your past, a lot of people say, “Well, in the past I couldn’t do it. I tried to get up early. I see
the comments all over Robin. I tried to join your 5AM Club. I love the concept. I know it would help. I appreciate the neuroscience behind it. I understand the willpower research coming out that says willpower’s a lot like a muscle. So if I flex it by
getting up early, I’ll get stronger. But I haven’t been able to do it before, so I can’t do it.” All I want to remind you on this first rule of The 5AM Club is, try it again. And one of the things about great geniuses is they understand that persistency is part of the DNA of mastery. And so get in the game today or tomorrow morning, get up at 5AM and yes, it’s going to be hard. If it was easy, it really wouldn’t be valuable. What I’ve realized is when something is hard, it is a doorway into your growth. So the first point is just because you couldn’t do it yesterday doesn’t mean you can’t do it today. Make a commitment from the deepest place within you to become a member of The 5AM Club and then just get it done. And when it’s messy and when it’s
hard, and when it’s difficult, when you don’t feel like doing it, do it. Because one of the way that you build ferocious levels of self-discipline, the scientists call it self- regulation. But how do you build self-discipline? You do the things you don’t feel like doing even when you don’t feel like doing them.
