What Really Limits Us Is Us

How can you rise to your highness if you’re not willing to look at your fears? And so the more you can hug your monsters, the more you will reclaim your human greatness. A lot of people are afraid to look at their limitations. They’re afraid to look at their fears, their fear of success, their fear of failure, their fear of not fitting in, their fear of not having enough. A lot of people I’ve worked with have fear of losing family members, losing their good name. A lot of people are really afraid of losing their good health. Here’s I think a point worth considering, fundamentally in every human being there is an ambient fear of death because no matter who you are, no matter where you live, we all know one thing, as Jim Morrison of the Doors said, no one gets out alive. And so much of our insecurities and our fearfulness, and our timidity in terms of the way we live in the world comes from this ambient soft background, fear of death. One of the smartest things you can do is overcome your fear of death and just realize we’re all going to die. And so what, we’re going to end up as ashes. Or we’re going to end up six feet under, and perhaps we move to another state. Perhaps we move to another incarnation, depending on your faith. To me, death is not really something to be feared. What I fear is not really living while I’m alive. And so the seventh and final of the dangers you’re going to face on the journey is battling your dragons. But how do Spartan warriors get strong? The Spartan warriors got strong in battle. And when you battle your dragons, don’t see it as something to run away from. See it as bravery training, see it as wisdom practice, see it as the very portal to become more of who you truly are.
